Beauty in the Mundane

When I close my eyes and dream, I often dream of far away places. In some cases I see images I have seen in digital articles, social media and books. It’s not often I see the park just 800 meters from my home.

The other day after a few days of gray and a few inches of fresh snow I was walking the dog. I looked up at the snow covered park and saw beauty everywhere. Incredible light. Fresh, soft snow. Long shadows. I finished my dog walk, walked back the house and grabbed the camera. I spent about 45 minutes in the sub zero temps photographing this park. Had it not been for cold feet and hands, I would have spent longer.

As I took these images and later processed them, it made me wonder what else am I not seeing? What everyday scenes do I overlook in pursuit of the grand postcard shot? Why do I dream of faraway photo adventures when they are right in my backyard? These moments of seeing beauty in the mundane is pushing me to see beauty everywhere.

So here are the images. Maybe you think I am crazy…And that’s OK. I love these images and I love the way they have made me think this week. Click on any to go to slideshow mode.
