Seriously, come ride The Heywood. I know it’s likely a little late for this post as the ride is this coming Saturday, but I am taking one last shot at encouraging others to come out. Why should you come? Read on….
First a little back story to the invite. Recently a friend shared a short video with a friend and myself. While photography related, I think it also applies so directly to bicycles…..And more specifically riding gravel. The video is about a professional photographer whom always has a final outcome or purpose for photography and losing the pure joy in simply capturing an image for the sake of fun. The link to this amazing short video is here.
While gravel and gravel events are all the rage, I feel some things are getting just a bit lost in professional racing, national rankings, rules, seriousness & money. That’s just business and “progression” I know. I believe it is also pushing many folks away from the genre of riding as well as the events. Thankfully, some folks and organizers recognize this and are doing events differently or creating truly authentic rides/events that are for more, dare I say all, people.
IMHO, The Heywood Ride is one of those events. All riders. All types of bikes. Low entry fees. Good people. There is still time to register. The registration is low by event standards at $25 prior to ride day, but there are also scholarships available for those that need and deserve it! You can even register on ride day for a higher fee. So go register and come this Saturday to have fun!

Lastly, I often get asked for GPS routes of my rides in this area. Honestly, I don’t use my GPS. I just ride roads. But I do take images and we rode many of the roads on the Heywood 55 mile route last night. If you want a sneak peek of some of the route, check out these images!

Yep, just do it. Come. You won’t regret it.
