NEW YORK – US – PART 1

As Jen and I near our 25 year anniversary (July 2024), we decided that we’d take every opportunity we could to celebrate. Consider this quick trip to New York anniversary celebration number 1!

I don’t know exactly when we started talking about planning experiences and then planning trips around them, but as Christmas approached we decided to not give presents and do something different for spring break. We decided to go to New York for a comedy and entertainment trip. We found a comedian we liked, Fortune Feimster, booked tickets and then started filling in days and experiences around the comedy show. In the end, we filled our time with tons of fun experiences including going to The Comedy Cellar, a walking food focused tour in Brooklyn, eating at some incredible establishments, seeing a broadway show, running Central Park, experiencing the Guggenheim, walking Brooklyn Bridge & the High Line, taking in the splendor of Easter Bonnet Parade and laughing hysterically at the Fortune Feimster show!

Honestly, there was more than just those things but yeah, we had a blast and packed a lot in our short visit! Personally, my favs were the Fortune Feimster comedy show followed by running Central Park with Jen on a beautiful spring day. I also really enjoyed our food at Mary’s Fishcamp and Mitr Thai. Side note, it was also quite an accomplishment for me to run all of Central Park as the run was over 6 miles! Yikes. I better check distances before I commit in the future! Yes, I walked some but dang I ran 6 miles for the first time ever! BTW – Jen made it look easy.

But back to the purpose, it was great to kick off 2024 and celebrate a year of 25 years of marriage. So thankful Jen picked me and I can’t wait for the next 25! We’ve also go a few other great things planned for later in the year.

So here are a few pics. As always click on any of them to move to slide show mode. Also note that this trip was not a photo focused trip. It was truly a time to get away together and just have fun. Three of the venues didn’t allow any pictures. One day I didn’t even take a single picture! So here goes.

We had so much fun! New York is quite the city. Our only real issue we ran into the entire trip was simply getting tired of trying to figure out food. The problem was not that there wasn’t good food or options. The problem was simply making the decision on what and where, as there were simply too many great options.

Lastly, as I mentioned, this trip was not about my personal, nerdy photography. That said, I of course spent some time taking my artsy, nerdy and creative, self satisfying photographs. New York is a creative paradise for a hack photographer like me. I also learned a lot and thought a lot about what photography means to me as well as photography gear. In my next post I’ll share my approach, my gear and a few personal favorite, artsy fartsy photographs from the various sites and locations. Stay tuned!
