Wildlife Wednesday – The Reward

By now you are likely tired of me shooting photographs of eagles along the Minnesota River Valley. I’ve got a lot more shots because it has been an incredible season for seeing and shooting images of eagles along the valley. The other day in the snowstorm I saw no less than 20 of them in about a 3 mile stretch. Truly incredible. However, today I bring you something else. I’ll be back with eagles next week.

Today’s image is quite a bit different. I love pictures that make you look a bit and then reward you. That is how I feel about this image. I saw this dead tree along the river and thought wouldn’t it be great if an eagle landed right on the top of that thing and allowed me to shoot it. As I got closer I saw a small bird had in fact landed and was sitting on the exact spot I had imagined an eagle. I was fortunate to have my camera ready. I pulled over to the side of the road with my car, rolled down the window and I shot right out the window along the side of the road. I was there only briefly, maybe 60 second, but I took quite a few exposures of this one ranging from the silhouette you see here to a lovely exposed bird. One of my favorite shots in a long, long time. I printed it large for my magnetic board office wall. I may put it for sale in the store. Leave me a comment if you’d like me to get something up there. I just love the simplicity and the peace in this image.
