Lately, I have been having some pretty big stuff going on in my life. It’s good stuff and needed stuff, but in making the choices to be who I want to be, my riding time has been significantly suppressed. When I do get to ride, I try to make the most of it. Obviously, I have been riding fatbikes but I have also had other types of rides and experiences on my brain. With signing up for Almazo in the spring, I have been thinking about riding in the country again. Normally I choose my Fargo as that is my all time favorite bike and it just puts me in a specific mindset. However, lately, I have found myself our riding one of my other favorite and not talked about bikes, my Vaya Ti.
So…I mounted up some Clement X’plor MSO 40c tires and have been riding my Vaya Ti on the icy and rough gravel. It isn’t quite as sure footed and comfy under me as my Fargo with it’s bigger tires, but it is a lovely ride and the lowish BB height and all around more road like bike build, it just feels a bit faster and very stable. Just right for the experience I’ve been seeking. It’s nice to change up my bike choice a bit and I look forward to some longer miles on it when I have the opportunity.
In other bike news, I am thinking about my Fargo and getting it ready for the coming year. My friend Ben Witt is building me some wheels for it courtesy of WTB. I am finally going tubeless! Yep, I’ve been a hold out, but I gotta give it a try. I also have something special going on with my Mukluk fatbike. I hope to get it completed this weekend and if I do, I’ll share it here next week. Let’s just say I decided that I wanted to ride something a bit different and something a bit more permanent as many of my bikes are what I call temporary. This one will be quite permanent and go with my Fargo Ti and my Vaya Ti in my permanent ,always built and always running category of bikes. The rest of the contraptions I experiment with, I can’t, and won’t, make any promises.
